You hear it all the time but - WEAR SAFETY GLASSSES WHEN MACHINING - it will ruin your day week or worst getting metal in the eye... this is from stupid experience... even little particles in your eye - the doctors have to put dye in your eye then try to pick out the pieces with tweezers while you are watching because your eyes can not be put to sleep, then you have to wear a patch over your eye for a week and it will be either painful or itchy or both.
The worst is you will have no depth perception so forget about riding your moped for a week or more.

Drills work the best at the right speed - sometimes people in a rush try to drill with the bit spinning too fast and they end up drilling even slower then using the right speed. SO I have attached a speed chart for drilling steel and aluminium - the two main metals we use on our Mobys for modifications, fabrications or repairs. If you decide to get fancy and use stainless steel then just cut the steel speed in half. When drilling always use cutting oil to keep the drill tip cool - OR - if you are doing multiple holes you can dip the drill bit in general purpose grease - as you drill the grease will melt and supply the tip with lubricant.
If you do not have a tachometer or scalable control then just gauge approximately for the speed. The metal will tell you if you are drilling at the right speed.
If you have the perfect speed the metal will come out of the hole while you drill in little dreadlock spirals of metal.

Usual troubles in drilling and how to fix it...
If the drill bit starts to squeel - you are drilling too fast or the bit needs to be sharpened.
If the drill bit is too hot - you are drilling too fast or you need to use more oil.
If the drill becomes dull quickly - you need to use more oil.
If the drill bit wobbles - bit os warped or it is not in the chuck straight.
If the drill bit skates across where you are drilling - use a larger center punch or drill a pilot hole.
If the drill bit grabs when it is going through the piece - you are putting too much down force on the drill OR your speed is slightly too fast.

Also wear a mask or bandana over your mouth and nose when doing alot of machining, you really don't want to be breathing all those particulates.
