Here are comparison pictures of an AV7 piston ported engine and the AV10 reed induction engine.
There are easy ways to identify the engines if you are shopping for a replacement motor.
In the second picture you can see the very obvious difference between the engines, the AV7 has the small round inlet on the cylinder, the AV7 has the reed block mounted on the carter casing for an inlet.
Another feature is the size of the generator/magneto is much smaller on the AV10.

The engines power is depended on a lot of different things, primary set up, porting, carburation, exhaust. The big difference between these two engines, is the intake. Because the AV7 has it's intake on the cylinder, it'll blow back part of it's fuel mix back into the carb, when it goes down in the cylinder. The AV10 doesnt have that, because the reed valve closes immediately, when the piston starts travelling down. That's why the AV10 has some more power in the lower rev's, where the blowback action of the AV7 is strongest. I saw a turkish advertisement (recent), which stated, that the AV10 engines they still produce there, develop 3,5 hp! For the AV10 engine, it's easier to still find high powered kits from Mallossi, or Airsal. Even 60 or 70 cc.
